A Greek dessert with Pastry, mixed Nuts and Honey
Ingredients:
- 100 g Filo Pastry
- 100 g chopped Nuts
- 50 g Butter
- A pinch of Cinnamon
- 55 ml Water
- 50 g white sugar
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 25 ml Honey
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 180 C/ Gas mark 4.
- Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9x13 inch pan.
- Chop nuts and toss them with cinnamon.
- Place two sheets of pastry in the pan and butter thoroughly. Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered.
- Sprinkle some of nut mixture on top. Top with two sheets of pastry, butter and add nut. repeat this process until the top layer is 6 sheets deep.
- Using a sharp knife cut into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom of the pan.
- Bake for about 50 minutes until baklava is golden and crisp.
- Meanwhile boil sugar and water until sugar is dissolved. Add vanilla and honey and Simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Spoon over the honey syrup over the Baklava and leave to cool before serving.
- Serve with poring cream or a cup of black tea.
