'Childsmile' is the new scheme used in Scotland to tackle dental problems in children specially in deprived areas.
The main aim of the programme is to build up a good dental habit from an early age and to encourage methods to prevent tooth decay in children. The scheme is currently carried out by Dental hygienist but soon Dental nurses will join them. The Dental staff will be equipped with vans to carry dental equipments and treat children in vans when there is not enough space in the school.

The scheme has already begun in Fife and will soon takes place in other areas such as Tayside, Lothian, Borders, Forth Valley and Ayrshire & Arran NHS board areas.
